I had an exciting opportunity to work with AREA 51 to create a custom hand-painted mural with a Pinup Girl and the American Flag
for one of their client’s racing boats. The Pinup Girl and the American Flag in the design add a sense of nostalgia and patriotism
and are recurring subjects for boats. The collaboration with AREA 51 offered me a great experience to use my skills and adapt to the
challenges posed by marine paints. Painting freehand with marine paints can be a meticulous and challenging process.
The work has to be durable and long-lasting. A mural painted on a racing boat keel bulb needs to withstand the conditions of water,
and weather, and therefore, after the mural was painted, it needed constant sanding and varnishing.

A pin-up model (known as a pin-up girl for a female and less commonly a male pin-up for a male) is a model whose mass-produced pictures
see wide appeal as popular culture. Pin-ups are intended for informal display, i.e. meant to be “pinned-up” on a wall.
Pin-up models may be glamour models, fashion models, or actors. These pictures are also sometimes known as cheesecake photos.
The cheesecake was an American slang word, that was considered a publicly acceptable term for seminude women
because pin-up was considered taboo in the early twentieth century. The term pin-up may refer to drawings, paintings, and other illustrations as well as photographs. The term was first attested to in English in 1941; however, the practice is documented back at least to the 1890s.
Posters of pin-ups were mass-produced and became popular from the mid-20th century.
