PUBLIC ART
Public murals, terrazzo floor and playground fence designs are some of the outdoor and indoor projects I was fortunate to be selected to work on over the years. Indeed, my interest in public art first sparked in 2008 during my Masters Program at Florida Atlantic University, when I did research on public art in the United States. Ever since, my work’s purpose is to beautify and transform a space, and heighten viewers’ awareness to our surroundings. For new project inquiries, please send a message by clicking here.

FIREFIGHTER MURAL awarded by the City of Oakland Park, Fire station #87, Oakland Park, Florida, 2015
The public mural depicts scenes of the firefighters’ activities at the station and on call. The chief, Donald Widing said that children will be invited to create their own drawings based on what they learned and have these drawings exhibited at the station on the opposite wall from the public mural. This public mural project was a great experience for me. Many thanks to Kathleen Margoles – Special Projects Coordinator at the City of Oakland Park, Donald Widing – Chief of Fire Rescue, Greg Lewis – Support Service Coordinator, and all the firemen at Stations #87 and #9!!!

TERRAZZO FLOOR Performing Arts Center of Lauderhill, Lauderhill, Florida, 2014
This site-specific public project is a terrazzo floor, called “Music”. It was completed by a terrazzo professional team, based on my custom-made, original design. The project was realized for the Performing Arts Center of Lauderhill. LAUDERHILL STORY MURAL, public mural, painted on a 10×27 feet curved wall, Lauderhill City Hall, Lauderhill, Florida, 2011
This public mural project is located in a government building, the City of Lauderhill. For this reason, I got my inspirations from the Classical art of Greece (the Greek Parthenon, built on democracy principles) and old Florida architecture. The mural depicts a view from a porch with two ‘wings’ – on the left, a Key West style porch with gingerbread designs, and on the right, a Classical style porch with Ionic columns and balustrade. The ornamental band on the upper side was ‘borrowed’ from the once colorful Greek Parthenon. It gives the mural a formal and elegant look. This public mural invites visitors to a ‘visual’ walk – from left to right there is a waterfall, followed by the Inverrary Golf Course (initiated and supported by Jackie Gleason, pictured with his famous mini Rolls Royce golf cart.) A peacock, a cricket and football attributes, the city hall building, and the US, Florida, and Lauderhill flags were also added in this public mural. FLORIDA IMPRESSIONS MURAL Dome in Rotunda, Lauderhill City Hall, Florida, 2009                                                                                                                                           This public mural project’s focus was to emphasize Florida flora and fauna. Since this was a mural for a government building, I went back to antiquity to get my inspirations. The once colorful Greek Parthenon, built on democracy principles, was the starting point. I used the colorful band from the Parthenon around the base of the dome to give the mural a formal and elegant look. I used trompe l’oeil to make the viewer perceive the whole dome as a real scenery. Therefore, to achieve more depth, I added a base, imitating coral stone that comes from the ocean. This public mural invites the visitors to connect to history and admire Florida local scenery with birds, flowers, plants, and trees.
