Wall mural Painting Statue of Liberty
Statue of Liberty Wall Mural Project Description
Bill Pederson, proprietor and 29-year U.S. Air Force active duty service member inquired for a commercial mural with the Statue of Liberty that would keep in line with the name of the laundry. He wanted the Statue of Liberty so the many immigrants using the laundry could feel the spirit and learn the history of the United States.
The Statue of Liberty (1886) is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy to millions of people around the world. The statue was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States. If you visit New York, plan on seeing The Statue of Liberty exhibit, opened in 1986 with historical sections that inform about many historical facts about the statue. You can see the original torch of 1886 in the Torch Exhibit and learn about its history. In 1883 Emma Lazarus has written ‘The New Colossus”, a sonnet written to raise money for the construction of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. The bronze plaque with “The New Colossus” is currently located in the Statue of Liberty exhibit. It symbolizes the statue’s universal message of hope and freedom for immigrants coming to America and people seeking freedom around the world.
